Skills that take 10 minutes or even 1 day to train are not the problem. Longer skills are. For example, you can train Cruisers V, but if you won't use it later (i.e. specialized cruisers are not your cup of tea), 25 days of training will be wasted...

Destroyed in two shots? Either your tactic is bad or you didn't read the mission briefieng carefully. What mission was it? Check your hangar. If you have an Atron there, try it out (keep in mind that only rookie ships are replaced when destroyed).
